Here in New York, we're pretty blessed with having several excellent flea markets. They're nothing like they used to be, but you can still find some great stuff, especially if you're looking for one or two serving pieces to add to what you already have in preparation for the holidays. But I also know there's a lot of people out there who just don't have access to good flea markets where they are.

BambooPlatterFork

Enter ebay. That's where I found this platter for $29. It
arrived from Maine about two weeks ago, and it's already my new
favorite piece for holiday entertaining. Black transferware
is a mini-obsession of mine, and this piece I adore! It's a Chinoiserie
pattern of bamboo, cherry blossoms and birds. The border I think is so
pretty, especially for serving one of my favorite Thanksgiving sides,
roasted root vegetables—turnips, parsnips, carrots and Yukon gold
potatoes—all tossed in olive oil with fresh herbs, garlic, salt and
pepper.

BambooPlatterMarking

Manufactured by B. & S. H. in England, it dates back to the 1890s, making it yet another object I love one hundred years old and counting. And what about you? Do you have an obession (mini or otherwise) for holiday entertaining this year? I'd love to hear about it.
