Now that we've emptied the house of a few things, there's plenty of room for more, like this 1950s brass and glass coffee table we scored at a Goodwill in Danbury.
The hoof feet give it a rich, decorator look reminiscent of these.
The only difference is we paid about 15 bucks.
Here's to Goodwill Hunting!
Incredible find! I would’ve been beside myself 🙂
I think I’d give it a new top that is cut the exact same size as the outer edge of the legs. It would make it less dated. Whether in glass or in black granite
Wow another great find. I grew up hunting flea markets, goodwill & such with my Mom. I have always loved it. You never know what you might find 🙂
I’ll take the orange velvet sofa in the background!!! PS I’m calling you today I promise!
I wish I had your eye!
Love it!!
Ironically I saw a trio of these brass & glass tables with those same hoof feet at a thrift store last Friday and was seriously tempted. Now that you snagged one, I’m feeling like I blew it by not snapping one up!
xo
Are you KIDDING me?! This may be one of your best yet. 🙂
p.s. Ocean Grove NJ flea Saturday. I’ve been on a total bloggy break but nothing like the OG flea to bring me back! I’m enjoying having a catch-up on your blog and sorry I missed out on your yard sale (which appears to be the buzz of blogland!).
great score!! I bet you zeroed right in on it and squealed with delight when you spied the hooves. $15…crazy good score!!
Texas Love!
Great find! I love finding brass at thrift shops. Makes me glad that fuggo “brushed nickel” is so popular, so everyone donates their pretty brass and we can grab it up for cheap!
THIS table is at a local consignment shop for $225. I’d say GREAT score! http://www.foryu.com/images/x-cb81-1.jpg
The best finds, I adore those feet!!

what a treasure! hard to believe someone thought that to be trash. congrats on a GREAT score.
I have the feeling you could find a treasure in an empty room. You have a great eye and incredible enthusiasm. Keep up the good work.
So beautiful – I love the feet – I’ve been craigslisting for a something just like this!
I love Eddie and Jaithan! I love Eddie and Jaithan! (accompanied by much jumping down and clapping!)
Show us what you do with it! I love it!

Wow – amazing find!! $15?!? Love it.
gorgeous! I can’t wait to see how you work it into your decor. Love a good thrift store. You never know what you’ll find.
Nice buy, indeed! I’d be tempted to paint the base black, or a Chinese red.
GREAT find! AND I think I could spend hours (If I had them) getting lost in that link you provided! I scored at GW recently as well. I found a needlepoint of a sweet fox terrier on a leash in a wonderful oval frame for 5 dollars. On Monday we saw a needlepoint parakeet (same size) in a rectangular frame at an antique store for $110.00 My husband even high-fived me! LOL
doesn’t that give you such a high to get such a great find? I love when I score something really special at a Goodwill. Matt and I were in Hawaii and I said Stop! I see a thrift store, I didn’t find anything but I sleep better knowing I looked.
I think you found a classic, Can’t wait to see it in the room!! Hugs Kathysue
Um , I think my mother wants her table back. We had one just like that in our house. Actually quite the chi chi front room too. I believe there were lemon yellow silk tight back chairs, a citrus green hassock (no fringe) cream carpet and a dark case piece in there. Who knew she was ahead of her time.
Love the table! But I would love more is if you told us how you knew it’s from the 1950’s! Educate us a little more. What tipped you off? What should we look for? Enlighten us don’t just show us!
Thank you!
Boy if I didn’t like you guys as much as I do, I would be terribly jealous! I have been Craiglisting these for 3 weeks and nothing. What a great find. Can’t wait to see it in action.
Goodwill hunting can be the best and you do it so well.
loving it and the price even more!

A few months ago a dealer on 1stdibs.com had the identical table listed fro $1600. It’s a great coffee table, but think it is a couple of decades later than the 50’s. But the age isn’t really that important—it’s all about the feel and look. A true classic.
Eddie – I live in Danbury and am REGULARLY haunting our two GW stores as well as a Salvation Army. Am I competing with you now for treasures? 🙂 What about Elephant Trunk? – I’m sure you’ve been there. It’s a goldmine here but (I thought) a well kept secret!
Don’t you love it?! I can’t get enough of bargains. So is that painters tape around the edges because I’m curious if you’re going to paint it or zhuzh it up!

I had the same kind of table except the top was round with hexagonal beveled edges. But the brass base had exactly the same feet and style. Have to agree with other commenter that this is a 70’s table. That what ours was. Funny I just gave it to a charity two years ago. Who knew it was back in style.
Oooh, yes, what a rush! Love to see your “Scores.” Just nabbed a 60’s plaid, fold-up cot (with head and foot boards!) for $5. Campy camping at its best. Goodwill’s are gold mines when you find a good one.
Okay, I practically LIVE at the Goodwill stores here in Danbury (life-long resident- WHOOP) and THIS day I miss seeing you there?! Come on over on a weekend so that when I see you guys you’ll know it’s me squealing like a little girl. BTW, ridiculous find… Nice work! 🙂
great find. you’re amazing. have a great week in chicago.
I’ve been looking all over for this exact table. Can’t believe u scored it for 15 dollars. Bravo to you!
Hi Eddie,
I was amazed to see how much you paid for your table! (Brasswell’s yesterday-$495., no glass). I got a La Barge one a long time ago at Ciati’s in South Norwalk and it now has rust stains under the glass around the rim where yours has the blue painters’ tape. (I think it is from too much glass cleaner.) Do you have any idea how to remove it or make it look better?
WHEN I LIVED IN NEWTOWN I WOULD GO INTO THE DANBURY GOODWILL AND HAVE FOUND WONDERFUL THING THERE, THIS WAS WELL BEFORE BLOGS AND THE ONSLOT OF PICKERS….
I JUST SCORED HERE IN SANTA FE AT THE ANNUAL SALE OF AMERICAN COUNTRY CLASSIC…
A CABINET FROM IRELAND THAT IS 8 FEET BY 6 FEET BY 20 INCHES… WAS 10 THOUSAND DOLLARS I GOT IT FOR JUST OVER TWO THOUSAND… A SERIOUS PIECE THAT WILL BE IN THE FAMILY FOREVER AND A SERIOUS DISCOUNT……

I’ve seen this exact table at the Georgetown flea market for $400. Love the hoofed feet but didn’t love the price. Well done!

classic…gorgeous…jealous! I agree with Anne, with that eye enthusiasm, you could find a treasure in an empty room!
How fabulous! What a gorgeous piece, and you’ll love it even more knowing the price! xx

I had a La Barge table like that years ago and have been looking for one again. Dealers on 1st Dibs sell them (ask for, I should say) around 3-4000 dollars. I am envious. Ethan Allen sold a really solid well-made one in the 80’s and I wonder if it was La Barge. Doggone it, I want that table! But for no more than 20 bucks, I can’t believe you found it. Loved your Christmas decorations show last year, btw. Also, enjoyed you on the design show competition you were on a while back. Thanks for posting your table photo, it came up in my regular search for “brass and glass coffee table.”
Hi,
We just moved into a house that has the exact coffee table that you show in the picture. I am not interested in keeping it but after reading your article I don’t know if I should try to sell it or what? Could you help me put a value on it? What would you do? Any help would be appreciated.
I’d get rid of this table asap and by get rid of, I mean destroy it. My boyfriend’s father recently died when he tripped and landed on a table just like this. Old school glass tables were not made with tempered glass so when it breaks, it breaks into large shards. Unfortunately, one of these large shards of glass went into his heart and killed him. I’ve been reading similar stories on the internet about old glass tables. I thought you should know this because before this accident, I never would have thought glass tables were dangerous.
I just bought the exact table at Savers (much like Goodwill) here in Las Vegas.
It was priced at $14.95 minus my 20% off coupon. I thought it might be special!
I NEED that table for my new dining/living room. I now refuse to buy one until I find one at Goodwill for under $20.
I have this EXACT table! I bought it in Nashville in the mid ’80’s – new – from a Carolina Direct outlet. Paid way more than $15. I think it was close to $500! I don’t want to get rid of it but do want to update room. Googled “decorating with brass furniture” and came across http://www.betweennapsontheporch.com that showed a picture of an Eddie Ross room decorated with this table as a focal point. Am happy that I kept it!
I was writing an article on brass for a client and came across this blog. First, as a child of a relatively well to do family with a mother that loved Goodwill shopping on half price days, I applaud your find. However, I sat and looked at that picture for about 15 minutes, trying to figure out why they’d put a butt ugly blue border on such a beautiful table, until I realized–it’s packing tape….duh. I’d love to see the table without the tape.
