Fall is in full swing at terrain, the concept garden store from Urban Outfitters where next week, I'll be revealing some of my best kept secrets to decorating and entertaining with gourds.
These days, enter the grounds at Styer's outside Philadelphia, the century-old greenhouse that now houses terrain, and fall envelops you whole.
There are gourds and pumpkins as far as the eye can see.
Rare and beautiful specimens, displayed neatly in bins.
Ever tried hollowing one out for flowers? It's easier than you might think, and I'll show you how.
Here's the best part: everyone makes their own arrangement to take home! To start, how pretty is this vintage hydrangea with the blue pumpkin?
I'll also be setting a harvest chic table for the fall, inspired by the pretty blues and subtle purples in the arrangement.
Speaking of entertaining, add a few great baskets in wicker and wire, and we have just what we need for the gourd crudité I'll be demonstrating, along with a monogrammed soup tureen made from an heirloom pumpkin.
Not a creepy crudité, but something fresher and more elegant.
The events are on Thursday, October 14th and Friday, October 15th, both from 6:00 – 8:00 pm, when we transform this room at terrain into a beautiful, candlelit workshop.
Tickets for the event are $65 per person during which you'll make your own arrangement in a specialty blue pumpkin with fresh cut flowers. We're also serving plenty of wine and hors d'oeuvres to get the creative juices flowing! Hope to see you at terrain, everyone!
Move closer to Seattle! I want to join each and every event you mega talented gentlemen host!
I am looking forward to the pictures from the upcoming Terrain event. It is going to be fab & inspirational especially with that color palette.
Fall hugs to you both, Mon

I wish that I could be there!! We’re going to the area in November for the Chic it Up design conference at Winterthur – will you be there!? – but I can’t make it that far over in October. I love terrain though – and I know this is going to be a stunning event! Can’t wait to see photos!
Wish I could go but I live all of the way in Oregon! Hopefully you come out and do something my way. I’ll be sure to come!

Oh Eddie…please come to southern California!!!!!!
Wish I were closer! I have been wanting to try an arrangement inside a pumpkin for a while. Can’t wait to see photos. =)
I madly love the vintage hydrangea (one of my faves) with the blue pumpkin. SO FAB!! I totally think Pro Flowers or something like that needs an Eddie Ross collection. How great would that be?!??!?!!!!
this is halloween, this is halloween, halloween, halloween… i love this film. it´s time of pumpkins (really beautiful!) but i love the hydrangea. In spanish the name is “hortensia” (strange name)
…ah, thanks for your kind comment in my blog, you are the best. kisses
How wonderful! Unfortunately all pumpkins (especially those who are for decorating) are really expensive. We don’t celebrate Halloween but still I love decorating with pumpkins during autumn! 🙂 Wish it could be a little more like the US or England here in Norway..
When are you coming to Amsterdam :))!
Looks amazing and
just wish I were
“local.” Love all
of the inspiring
images ~ It’s going
to be a wonderful
workshop, I’m certain!
xx Suzanne
Natural beauty at it’s finest! This is just in time for our annual Oktoberfest. Thank you for the ideas and I can’t wait to see what you create ~ I’m certain it will be amazing!

Good morning! Love the ideas in this post. It makes me wish Thanksgiving was this weekend. Quick question- haven’t heard if I have a spot on the Metrolina tour in November? My name is Mary-Stewart Loring and I have emailed twice before you sold out but could have Jaithan’s email wrong. Would love to make it- Thanks so much!
I would die to come. We have some of those large winnowing baskets in our little shop. You are giving me great ideas as usual. I hope you post some details of the event later. I’m SURE it will be a sell-out!!!
You had me with pumpkins and gourds — BUT monogramming heirloom pumpkins! Be still my heart! Really wish I could be there instead of anxiously awaiting the photos!
Wishing you safe travel and lots of fun —
xo Cathy
Wow! Sure wish I could be there. Looking forward to your next post. hugs ~lynne~
I hope one day soon you’ll make an appearance in Indianapolis, we’d love to see you and your magic!! Hope the event is a huge success!!
can’t wait to see photos…
I’ll just have to dream a little dream about being there. Blue pumpkins? How incredibly fresh and fun. Terrain looks like my kind of place, and I can’t wait to see how you turn that table into your kind of place! Oh, and New England, please?? 🙂
sigh, would love to go to terrain and see it in person – although maybe it’s better for my wallet! looking forward to your post on the event!
This looks awesome! I can’t wait to see the results!
..am crying in despair as usual at all the fun I miss out on..! What a fun event to be part of – lucky those who can attend!

What an *amazing* space to work your fall magic in! Would love to be able to be there! I look forward to (hopefully) hearing and seeing all about it.
Have fun & happy gourd-decorating…
xo J~
I LOVE fall! I am so ready to carve pumpkins! So far just a bowl of white pumkins in a white bowl in the center of my dining table…. definitely need some more touches of fall at home.
I DO live close by to Styers so am going to try my bEST to be there!!! Would love to meet you and work with you. I am a retired floral designer! Pinky
Just read your article in lonny! Love all of the tips! My fave has to be the linen napkins though! A touch of blue makes everything better. =)
The table is divine. I cannot wait to see what you come up with. Somehow I think that gray green pumpkin may make another appearance!
oh my goodness! everything sound perfect! i am sure it was a big hit! i am hoping and praying that you will be sharing a tutorial! pretty please!
Thanks for recommending this lovely store inside and out. I stopped by yesterday on our drive back to VA from NY to buy some linen clay pots and 75% off perennials for my garden. The table displays in the store are so lovely and inviting with lit candles and unique pots and vases. Did you post a photo of the room you decorated?
