Just back from Orlando and a whirlwind trip through Renniger's in Mt. Dora!
This was one of three antiques extravaganzas a year with vendors as far as the eye could see.
As a hoarder collector of good vintage serving pieces, I loved this table for its unusual mix of materials, like brass, sterling, silverplate, bone and Bakelite.
From here, I plucked three gleaming treasures, all of them twisted! First, there was a set of brass and teak salad servers, probably from the 60s, with a cool, Danish modern feel. I must still have Florida on the brain because I'm already dreaming of warm weather entertaining and everything I'll serve with them, like grilled meats, vegetables and other side dishes. Next, I scored a twisted silverplate ladle with a wonderful gold wash perfect for serving a chilled summer soup like minted pea or yellow tomato gazpacho. And finally, I found an unusual English silverplate strainer ladle with a twisted handle, like an old piece of Tiffany rope jewelry for the table. This I might use for serving gourmet maraschino cherries at a build your own sundae bar come summer.
Summer? Keep dreaming, Ross, and while your at it, rake the snow from the roof.
I would not mind being an attendee at any of your summer parties:) Your twisted treasures are lovely.
Those are so unusual. I love them!!
I miss you both so much…
We need to catch up soon!
XO
Ooo! I have family that lives right near there, I should check it out the next time I’m there!
E+J… I got the most amazing french ivory-handled spoon with a twised handle, and also a twist in the stem between the french ivory handle and the spoon bowl. it was stunning!

Hoarder…heehee, I have the same problem, I mean delight in acquiring vintage furniture. My logic is, at least I’m not buying new. Glad you found some great twisted treasures in Orlando! xx Danielle

If this was facebook I would defriend you! I WANT THAT WHOLE TABLE! We should go on hoarders, the stylist edition. That would be fun, and sad. love you.
I am still in summer mode after being in Maui for 3 weeks, now the the temp is -37 today (booo!).
Looking forward to spring & summer entertaining as well and I know your new twisted serving pieces will make great statements. Can wait to see the table-scape with those. xo
Nice pickings Mr Ross!
The Brass and Teak servers look wonderful, once polished and cleaned up, I see them in a beautiful summer salad :)…

I so want to hoard with you!!! So fun!
Oh my!
That could be TROUBLE!
From one(hoarder), I mean collector to another!
What a fun and great time you must have had!

Just gorgeous! I definitely see the possibilities of summer entertaining with those beautiful serving pieces. The market there looks like a grand adventure waiting to happen. Audley & I were just talking about a trip to Scott’s next month. This warm weather in the south most certainly has us spoiled, but there is still a fair amount of winter to come though!
xo,
Jennifer
Love your twisted finds!! And I’m dreaming of warmer weather as well. Oh to be able to sit outside!!
Thank heavens for your great eye – inspiring all of us! Love the “twisted” theme!!
And as for the roof (yes, we had a little water damage)….we recently ordered a roof rake! Spending most of my life in the South, I didn’t know there was such a thing.
Old Man Winter isn’t going to beat me!
xo E
Love the teak and brass servers!!! This post reminded me that I have a set of twisted handled ice tea spoons. I need to go find them as I have not seen them in a while. That is the problem with us collectors, we get it and misplace it. Good luck with the raking of the roof. ~~Sherry~~
I am always completely overwhelmed in huge markets like that… I just want to buy everything!
Well Hun it’s snowing here again
Question: was you barefooted in that picture?
Janice
E+J – will you be doing a guided shopping trip at the next Reninger’s Extravaganza? I’ve been there a bunch of times, but would love to learn from a talent like you!
I absolutely love gold flatware and servingware. It goes back to my grandmother’s next door neighbor Thelma who had an entire set and would always invite a tiny girl to tea.
Yep, this is one twister I would like to get caught up in.
Your twisted serving pieces are wonderful. I want to go through your kitchen drawers and see what other goodies you’re hoarding!
I’m such a fan of antique silver…would love to tag along!!
Looks like there were some great finds!
Hi E&J!!! Love the twist in your serving pieces!!! I bought a ice tea spoon with a twisted handle in silver plate, very Eddie Rossesque!!! I would love to find more. I need your keen eye!!! Great finds. Kathysue
Yes, definitely missing the Mount Dora weather and Florida sunshine! I like your twisted finds–perfect for serving a citrus salad, which I hope you had the chance to enjoy while in central Florida. Thanks for commenting on my post!
May I join you at the table as your twisted sister? {lOvE!} your finds!
I love Mt. Dora. Renningers was one of the last places we visited when we moved back from Florida. All our good friends met thre for a weekend of antiquing before heading back to NY.
E&J!
You ‘boys’ have all the fun! What great treasures you found, I love finding things like that!
What a sweet surprise to have you come visit me on a little floral inspiration.
See you next time you are in Atlanta?
xx
Looks like a wonderful time! I cannot wait for summer- even spring to arrive! I also live where there is too much snow STILL! I can definitely relate to raking the snow off the roof! ha ha! Great post. 🙂

Gorgeous finds! We just got six inches here – just when I was sure spring had come early.
xoTrina
I’m dreaming of summer too! Looks like you got to break out the shorts while you were there at least. I’ve been looking for a pretty ladle like that, no luck yet!
The winter months are long in the midwest…warm weather shopping just makes me long for the Kane Co Flea Market and Sandwich Antiques market this spring. I don’t care how cold it is in April…I am going.
It’s never hording if you use the things you buy 🙂
Take care
Janet
You just made me so excited for antique market season here in Canada!!!
Dang…I am ready to go to a flea market and wear shorts!!! Bring it! Loved your little treasures 🙂
E+J, Snow? Isn’t it raining on your roof? My husband drove down to Westchester today and said the snow turned to rain outside of Albany.
Here we are blanketed in lots of white and I will have to borrow a roof rake again. (But it sure is pretty and the woodstove is super toasty.)
Happy Weekend!
Loretta
That looks like fun! I need to join you on one of your outings! Enjoy the weekend.
love your menu planning! happy weekend!
Wow….you are not kidding, that’s a lot of vendors. I hope you had days to get to them all 🙂 Your treasures are wonderful (as always)…keep dreaming of spring and summer…it’s coming! xo

I followed your tweets along the way and was drooling over the things you were finding… wipe my lip drooling… what fun!

Two things I have been dreaming about lately: warm sunny days & flee markets! Love all your finds!
Hi,
I’m a little late reading this blog related water heater, especially some of the posts, but got to say… everything here is so great and so true. As someone who’s originally from the area, I get a chuckle out of many things here.
