Turquoise?
or yellow?
That was the question on all of our minds when photographer Mikki Duisterhof, Woman's Day editor Ayn-Monique Klahre and I compared cover tries during an Easter shoot at our house/studio in January.
The editors eventually chose turquoise, tweaking the color slightly so it popped on newsstands.
You'd never know it from the Easter egg workshop in our kitchen, but…
…on the day of the shoot, we had about 25 inches of snow in 12 hours!
That's our assistant's car under there.
So while the icicles grew longer and even more spectacular outside our windows…
…inside, we readied paper mâché and plastic egg boxes for adornment.
Some we glittered…
…others we covered in Caspari napkins.
Getting to the point outside…
…and inside too.
Vintage silverplate bread baskets got a modern makeover filled with candy and decorated eggs.
Here are two we made that didn't appear in the magazine.
And one that did!
There's nothing like a hard day of glittering to work up an appetite. Here's Ayn-Monique toting a generous dish of scalloped potatoes that tasted just as good as they looked. Recipe here.
Her "skirt" I fashioned from a vintage dish towel, pinned in place.
While the food editors from Woman's Day worked their magic with a batch of warm cheddar and chive buttermilk biscuits…
…I started pulling props for the buffet.
On Sunday, we're having six friends for Easter, and I'm making every dish from the shoot.
Here's the table I set in the kitchen for Woman's Day, but we'll be eating in the dining room where it's more formal.
Come back on Wednesday to see how it all turns out! Have a wonderful weekend, everyone, and Happy Easter!
Have a wonderful weekend! Happy Easter!! The spread you did for Woman’s Day was amazing. Great job. 🙂 I included it on my blog today, to show the readers how fabulous you are! I’m sure they already knew.
Love it all! As usual, absolutely fabulous! I’m itching to see your Easter photos and to hear if you fellas are planning anything fun for the Royal Wedding. I know you must have some fun ideas brewing!
So inspiring! Love all the Easter ideas. Your house looks so beautiful in all that snow. But how strange to have Easter in the middle of it! Can’t wait to see your real Easter!
I just love seeing how this all came together and I can’t get over how much snow you had that day! Adore your creativity, especially with the Caspari napkins. I have the blues ones and I adore them. You are brilliant as always! Wishing you both a very Happy Easter! xo
Oh my God, is that your new house?

I LOVE the eggs. That snow makes me sick! I am so over snow. Snow is only for Christmas!
I LOVED that article in Women’s Day! It’s sitting on my coffee table right now. I enjoy when you show us behind the scenes, it’s always very interesting! I’m in LOVE with that green and white napkiin that’s a little trellis-ish, it’s such a wonderful splash of Spring color. I know you two are super busy but if you have a moment, stop by my blog. I posted about the antique/junk store that I frequent. The poor gentlemen obviously has hoarding/OCD issues but he has so many marvelous finds. I always think of you when I go there and I try to look at everything with “EDDIE” eyes! LOL
The silver baskets are perfectly elegant vessels for those beautiful jewels you made. Hope to see you both very soon. XO
“Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom…” will stop E&J’s talent to deliver the moon.
Happy Easter E&J!

Just beautiful!
And now I’m hungry for scalloped potatoes, and it’s bedtime!!
Wishing you both a most Happy Easter!
OMG I can’t believe the snow! The shoot looks fab and I love all of the layouts you have shown. Wishing you both a lovely Easter~
Everything is stunning per usual. Your new house is so charming. When do we get a tour?
Great job, Eddie. I love those eggs done in the Caspari napkins. What a clever idea. They have such beautiful patterns! Everything looks just lovely and it’s very inspiring!
That is crazy with all that snow! Everything is perfect – the eggs, the table, the food! You are so talented and it is always a joy to see what you come up with. Your Easter meal sounds wonderful!
The Easter Bunny must be very proud of you Eddie!
Love your photos and hope your b-day was happy too.

Everything from your Women’s Day shoot is just lovely. I tore several pages out of my mom’s magazine to save for inspiration for next year.
Enjoy your Easter weekend!
SO much work went into this shoot, looks like it went off without a glitch… well, except for the snowstorm!
I really like the cool lighting in the kitchen, works so well with the chose color theme 🙂
Northern Light
PS. Might make the potatoes, they look really yummy!
Hi E & J, It all looks so beautiful! I love the blues and greens you used instead of the usual pinks and yellows too. But tell me, is that house your new house or your old house? I think the eating area with the bank of windows is my idea of heaven! All that glorious light. You guys seem to have boundless energy and ideas, so inspired by this! So appreciate your pop ins on me too! xxoo
Hi there~ Your Easter stylings are just gorgeous~ I love the turquoise and the pretty eggs- & that topiary is just gorgeous! . The snow…ugh… not loving that! Looks like you were just covered with it- at least you had a great time being creative indoors!! Hope you have a wonderful Easter! 🙂

I love when you show us how you work your magic! Such a treat. Ayn Monique looks like she could be your sister Eddie. I always love the colors you choose. Are you related? Happy Easter to you and Jaithan. Hope it is relaxing for you both!

Gorgeous as always! Thanks for the peek behind the scenes guys! Wish I could be there for Easter!
E+J- The eggs covered in Caspari napkins are so stylish (especially the dotted!). Really great idea!
Have a wonderful Easter. I’m fresh off an egg hunt with my little nephews and will be enjoying Easter through their eyes tomorrow.

Maybe next year you should do your Easter shoot in Charleston, SC. It is going to be upper 80’s tomorrow, Easter Sunday, and we are going to have an Easter egg hunt and then go to the beach.
Elizabeth Benton

OMG love love love everything. Dam, if I had known you were doing a butter leaf lettuce salad I would have sent you the BEST salad recipe (used it for Christmas) with carmalized onions and candied pecans with these amazing blue cheese recipe from a chef in Dallas. I loved it so much I emailed him and he sent it to me. That whole dinner looks so tasty. Enjoy your day. I know anything you prepare and decorate will make everyone feel ultra special and taste extra yummy! This is the first year I am not cooking and it feels so strange. But my stomach will be aching for that dinner. Happy Easter.
Just fabulous! More amazing is that you got into the Easter Spirit right after Christmas!!! Love it!

Hope you have a wonderful Easter!
I really enjoyed reading this post and seeing a glimpse behind the scenes. How fun that all this beautiful “Spring” was being created in the midst of a winter wonderland! Janell
Happy Easter Eddie and Jaithan. Everything looks so wonderful. xx
Beautiful post! LOVE the colors — I thing the right background was picked for the magazine. The whole article was fun to read and especially look at — colors are fab! Hope everyone has seen the last of the snow now — today here in DC — 80’s — yikes — hope it’s not humid. Have a great Easter and brunch for your friends and family!
I have many of my parents hand-me-down serve ware and always think they look old and drab. You do have a way of making those old pieces look so fresh and new again. Thanks for the inspiration! They’ll be hitting the table a bit more frequently now.
It’s always fun to see the creative process and how the magic happens!
Happy Easter, E+J! Thinking of you today!!!
xoxo E
Fabulous! Thank God you didn’t have to run out for any last minute items. That snow was relentless.
Oh how I love a look behind the scenes. To be a fly on the wall during a shoot would be incredible, to be able to assist on a shoot well…that would be pure bliss.
Thanks for sharing.

Love seeing behind the scenes. Even the outtakes are gorgeous. Looking forward to Tuesday!
Your Easter stylings are just gorgeous! Happy Easter!
Gorgeous, I love the color scheme!
How beautiful and how fun to know you were creating all of this amidst the swirling snow!!
Did you guys eat all of those potatoes before the shoot??!
Isn’t that just a kicker with that snow? You must have just loved shoveling your way out after all that springtime in the house! I just want to know how you constantly come up with these fabulous ideas. What do you do for inspiration, so that you don’t hit decorator’s block??? Oh, and just saw you in the latest issue of Southern Living with the white and pink table. Great stuff and I love the concept. How you had a wonderful Easter.
Beautiful Eddie! Hope you and Jaithan had a wonderful Easter. The “new” house looks so old fabulous. Looking forward to more pics! xx
Happy Easter! Thanks for the peek behind the shoot.

What a great behind the scenes look! The spread and everything you guys put together looked absolutely fabulous!
Thanks for the heads up, I did the credit for your pretty matchbooks gifties for your table at Lennox Hill Neighborhood house. I can’t wait to see the next window in the D and D. Your table was so pretty, we had 44, which calls for a serious “Art Blendo.”
Best,
Liz
Love it! The snow just cracks me up. Such is the magazine cycle. My mother got Woman’s Day for years when I was younger and I always thought it was a bit fuddy-duddy, but judging from this, looks like it has made quite the turn around!
Eddie,
Did you move? If so, when? I have been out of the country a lot this year and must have missed it. Did you blog about it?
LOVED everything about this Woman’s Day story. Question: how did you make the grass table runner in the last picture? I am sooo copying that for next year’s Easter table!
xoxo
Liz
Simply divine! Love it all … but you can keep that snow, Eddie … boy, am I over that! 🙂 So fun to see how all the magic happens. And those biscuits look FABulous!

I can’t wait to see more pictures of the new home.
WOW, what an incredible process…love it!! So beautiful. And the snow…Oh My!!! It’s beautiful, but I say this comfortably from my home in Southern California where is was 80 degrees today:-)
Skirt from a dish towel I love it. I really enjoy seeing the behind the scences. I learn a lot from them and that snow..my it was coming down that day.
Gorgeous Easter feature in Woman’s Day. The turquoise and Kelly green is perfection in my book! Love the different textures you selected for the eggs too. Congrats!
xo,
cristin
I love it when I get to go behind the scenes with you Eddie! I did some big paper eggs from the craft store in Pierre Deux paper napkins this year. They are so pretty and friends think they are old old old. Yaay!
That snow made for such pretty light indoors and big appetites for such good food too I see!
