Change is in the air, my friends, so why not freshen up things up around the house as well? Here's a makeover story I produced in the current issue of Woman's Day after a fantastic trip to a rummage sale, benefitting the Visiting Nurse Association of Somerset, New Jersey.

I loved the legs on this bench, but the fabric and batting were in dire need of an update. A graphic pattern in a bold color did just the trick, along with grosgrain ribbon to finish it off. And by the way, who knew Lowe's had such great mirrors?

This Chinoiserie lamp I thought was super chic, but to make it even better, I spray painted the base black and added feet. You'd never know they're actually brass drawer knobs! Huge thanks to our friends at Matouk and The Company Store for such beautiful bedding!

And finally, my favorite: a worn-out Federal-style mirror goes from prim to playful with polka-dot print wallpaper.

The next rummage sale in Somerset, New Jersey is October 7-9, so check it out! But before you go, here are a few of my insider tips to help you make the most of shopping day.
