Well, everyone—after six years of living in our small but beloved sliver of Manhattan, the time has come for a newer, better and far more beautiful chapter in our lives, and if you'll join us, in yours as well! If ten years in the magazine business and a short six months of blogging have taught me anything about what it takes to create pretty things, day in and day out, that (I hope!) inspire and delight you—furniture and table settings, flowers and food, glittered webs and ornament wreaths—it's space. And I mean S-P-A-C-E. For us New Yorkers, it's everywhere and nowhere. While we do have access to great restaurants, shopping, theater and, for the designers among us, an incredible selection of fabric and furniture, right at our fingertips, truth is—most of us sacrifice the luxury of space for the proximity to all things Fabulous. But after six years, I'm over Fabulous, at least the kind that requires waiting two hours for a table on a Friday night. Now I just want to be able to cook, craft, garden, decorate, and entertain in a way that's my own version of Fabulous. With silverware, china and linens. Hydrangeas, lilacs, and clematis. I want to have garden parties and dinners by the fire. A butler's pantry and a linen closet. A room for guests (frequent) and a room for Jaithan when we're at odds (infrequent). I want a washer. I want a dryer. I want a letter box on the street. I want a dog. I want five dogs! But most of all, I want to be able to share it all with you! So guess what? In a modest, 1760s farmhouse in Millerton, New York, nestled on a 70-acre working farm with horses and sheep, cows and ponies, we found it all. Here's a picture of our new home shortly after it was built.
And here it is today. The road's been built up, the porch modified and every side is clad in shingles. When Jaithan and I first saw the house from the road, we thought it looked so classic and charming.
Even before entering, I was smitten with the door knob, beautiful and old, like so much inside.
On entry, there's the original brick of the fireplace with a shaker peg rail for hanging coats and umbrellas.
Here's the view looking into the living room with the original wood beams and wide plank floors. The bones I think are so beautiful, the perfect beginning to a mix of modern and country, a farmhouse with an edgy, sophisticated style.
Here's the antique cooking fireplace in the dining room with a swing-arm cauldron and original beehive oven. Can't you just see the fire going with a great big pot of hearty winter stew?
Check out the details on the door of the beehive oven. I smell a wood-fired pizza party in the making.
From the kitchen window, this is the view out back. I could polish silver here for hours.
And off the kitchen, here's a small room we're going to use as a butler's pantry and office. Finally, a proper place for all that ironstone, glass, and jadeite, right? I can't wait to show you what we do in here!
This is the view into the downstairs bathroom. How charming is that clawfoot tub?
Here's a view going up the stairs. A striped runner like this one from my friend Annie Selke of Dash & Albert would look so great!
The upstairs bathroom has a beautiful, old sink and fixtures.
Here's the closet off the upstairs hallway, perfect for all those antique linens from the flea market. Wait until I paint the inside, then line the shelves with a pretty paper!
This is the master bedroom with plenty of room for a seating group. From the window…
this is the view out back to the barn, owned and operated by our new (and friendly!) neighbors.
And from the guest room…
the view to the horse fields beyond.
Down at the barn, how cute are the miniature horses Luna and Hal?
And the cows grazing on hay.
Here's Obo, the llama.
And finally, our favorite—a beautiful pair of prize-winning Cotswold sheep. Don't you just love their matching bells?
There are great things ahead, everyone! Greener pastures with bigger and better posts to inspire and delight you! I hope you'll join us…

Oh wow! How wonderful. I can not imagine what you are going to do with this great house and can’t wait to see the results. My home is over 70 years old and we have the original hardwood floors in most of our rooms. I’ve always wondered how to make my black and white tiled guest bathroom look perfect. I never dreamed that YOU were going to show me. 🙂

WELCOME HOME FRIEND, WELCOME HOME. HUGS FROM MAINE
It is beautiful now but once you have everything moved in and decorated it will be stunning! Congratulations
What a beautiful adventure this is going to be for the two of you. My jaw hit the desk as I scrolled through your photos of your new home – it’s going to be SO STUNNING…I just can’t wait to follow your journey!
Having moved from NYC just under a year ago, I have to say it was the best decision ever. Don’t get me wrong, sometimes I miss being in the heart of things, but I just have to remind myself of nasty, sweaty subway stops during the hot summer or the time a bum peed on my shoes while riding the 4 and I’m SO over it.
Gobsmacked! The animals (which you do not need to take care of, but can enjoy) seal the deal!
Cannot WAIT to see your magic!!!
I’m so excited for you and Jaithan. You’re going to be so happy! And your readers will be constantly giddy seeing all of the beauty you create. Do your neighbors have ANY idea how lucky they are?!
I’m so happy for the two of you!!!! Congratulations!
Your new home is fantastic and has so much potential!
I can’t wait to see what you do with the place 🙂 All that snow looks so lovely, and those two little horses are gawjus! It all looks so peaceful and homey.

Weeee! That is me super excited for you and Jaithan. Seriously, this post really made my day! I can’t wait to see what you do to the place.
I know your sentiment all too well. I move from Oklahoma to Los Angeles right after college. Although the city was nice at first, I slowly started missing everything about Oklahoma. Since then, my husband and I have moved to Orange County, much more suburban than Los Angeles. But we still have dreams of moving out to Georgia and living an even simpler life (in a much larger home might I add, with many more spaces to decorate!)
Best wishes to you, and I’ll be back daily of course 🙂
Congratulations you two. This is fabulous. I love the door on the beehive oven. The house appears to be in very good shape. You were so smart to snap it up. You’ll be country gentry in no time.
Best of luck with it. ♥Rosemary
Congrats to you both. I can’t wait to see it all come to life. So exciting!!
Congratulations! I so look forward to sharing your journey along the way through your blog. What an exciting time. All the best!
Congratulations! I wish you were already done so I could borrow your ideas! My husband and I are in the middle of building our own Farmhouse in KS and I want it to look like it’s 100 years old. Can’t wait to see what you come up with.
Congratulations! Welcome to country life. The city will always be there. All that land is so worth it, not to mention the fireplace. I wouldn’t trade mine for anything.
HUNNNSSSS- Teddy cannot wait to play with Oboe and I definitely smell a pizza party in the making. xx, Jacks
Welcome to my world!! I am so very happy for you & Jaithan! Your new home is GORGEOUS– those floors are to die for, the details on the door of the beehive, those beams- WOW! You are going to love your new life in the “real” world! I can’t wait to see what you do with your new home! I wish you much joy.
Congratulations!

Oh…mah…GAWD. It’s fabulous. A million congratulations and thanks for the fabulous tour. I can’t imagine how much fun you will have working on it! Looks like the perfect home to encourage you to stop and smell the roses (and the lilacs…and hydrangeas. ;-). And…I soooo want to make wood fired pizza!
oh wow! how beautiful, how amazing, how old! i LOVE and envy that your home is so old and that you have a picture of it from back then! while you make it beautiful you must also, please, get the history of the home…it must be so fascinating.
congrats! i can’t wait to see what you do.
Congratulations!!!
Your ‘new’ farmhouse is incrediable and I can’t wait to see what you have in store for all of us to enjoy.
We live in the country in a modern house but to live in a older farmhouse is so my dream home. The wood floors and all the wood molding and trim is to die for.
It’s beautiful…congratulations to you both.
Your new country home is just amazing, cozy and charming! What a serene setting…love all the farm animals! Can’t wait to watch you “make it yours”. Congrats to both of you!

Takes me back to when I was in my thirties and bought an old (1810) house in the country. You will have a lot of fun, and work, for many years to come. Enjoy!! I know I will enjoy watching you, from afar–thankfully, transform the house into a home.

Welcome to the hood!!!
The road ahead is filled with fabulous, I just know it! So excited to go on this journey with you!
Woo hoo! I am so happy for you. After 11 years in London we ended up in in a Southern city and it is totally wonderful. London is still there to visit friends and enjoy the city, we can zip up to Washington or NY. Best of all is the quality of life and especially our beautiful yellow Labrador retriever. Will raise a glass to toast your new life!
*faints dead to the floor*
What an amazing new home! You are going to have MOST FUN working on the new place. I’m so excited for you, and excited to watch it happen as you share the experience.
congrats!
tartanscot
If it was built in the 1760s, how could it have been photographed “shortly after it was built”?
Congrats!!! Can’t wait to see what you’ll do with all the space!
Congratulations! What a treasure! It’s gorgeous! I can’t wait to see after photos. 🙂
First and foremost, Congratulations to you both on your beautiful country home. I know it is going to be fabulous. I can’t wait to see the daily changes to the home, secondly I’m so sorry. You guys have no idea the long and tiredsome hours you will endure. The sweat the blood and most of all the tears that your new home will offer.
Been there done that. My husband and I have fixed up three homes and he finally threw in the towel and said very firmly “No more!” However, I said how about a 100 year old Victorian home? You will enjoy this adventure so much.
I so happy for you guys. So, the search is on for a beautiful house warming gift. Oh, how about a shovel, rake, hammer, screws, nails crow-bar. I hope you guys get the picture.
I can’t wait to meet you guys in Cali. Love, Elsa.
Congratulations!
The Dreams have a place to manifest into Joy and Contentment. You’ll have so much fun.
Congrats! I am so excited for you both! And because I know you two will take us through an amazing change in your wonderful new home!
Very nice post for such wonderful news …and after 15 years in NYC (and still counting? …I direct that to my beloved) I do relate. I’m excited for you both!
Congratulations and best wishes in your new home!
Oh guys, it is just magical. Thank you for showing us the bare bones of it. The floors are to die for. And I just love your many neighbors. I’m afraid that I would spend too much time with those precious little fellows, especially the sheep. Isn’t life beautiful. I’m glad you are taking the time to enjoy it as well as to share it with us. I could feel the love as I looked at the pictures. Barb Nieder
Corgis, you need corgis to make it perfect. Its fabulous, looks like it hasn’t been changed much. Will you freeze? Oh well, just think of all that hot chocolate with the corgis at your feet. You need to look at Tasha Tudor’s house and garden books and also you need peonies, lots of peonies.
How exciting! I’m so jealous that you’re starting with such an awesome blank slate–surrounded by such beauty and all the wonderful animals! I can hardly wait to see what kind of posts you come up with. Congrats!
Eddie you and Jaithan are Fabulous in the city and now you will be Fabulous in the country and that’s with a capital “F”..I eagerly wait the evolution of your new space…I know you will have me and my partner reconsidering “city” living, lol you continue to inspire me to live more graciously!!

Love that old house by the way.
And, I bet even after 77 comments you will still say thank you to mine. That’s why you’re the best.
I CANNOT WAIT to see you transform this wonderful house! You should do a book about it. Congratulations!
Also, thank you, thank you, thank you, for the link to the rugs. It’s just what I’ve been looking for!
Just found your site recently, and I must say I am addicted!!! Congrats to both of you on your new house, how very exciting to have all of that space. Lots of happy decorating to both of you, can’t wait to see pictures of your new adventure.
Congratulations and thanks for sharing pictures of your new home with us! You will love Millerton!! I spent some time in that area as my son went to school in Amenia for two years and sometimes when I would explore, I would wind up in Millerton. We still wander up that way to visit friends from time to time. That whole area is great with lots of exploring to be done and treasures to be found. Enjoy!!
How exciting for you both! Congratulations! I am madly in love with the sheep and the llama. The black & white floor in the bathroom is to die for. You’ve made a great choice!!
Ooh–I am SHIVERING with excitement to see what you do with the place! That old farmhouse looks like a dream come true–I was smitten with the porch. No one builds porches anymore! Don’t leave us out of anything–we want to see everything you do with the place. I bet you have fun–congratulations on finding such a great, and intact, house in the country.
Jaithan and Eddie, Mazel Tov! I’ve always wondered what it would be like to live in such a bucolic setting. I am excited to be a part of your adventure. I can’t wait to see you transform this house into your home!
A HUGE CONGRATULATIONS GUYS!!!!!
You’re new home is absolutely gorgeous! I just LOVE everything about it, especially the floors. I can’t wait to see it’s transformation from house to home and will be eagerly awaiting your updates.
We moved to the country about 18 months ago and though it has taken a bit of adjusting we love this life! We have two alpacas, a couple of sheep and are getting some chickens soon. We also share our property with plenty of native Australian wildlife including kangaroos, wombats and echidnae.
I love standing outside on a clear night in the crisp air and seeing a zillion stars!
You’ll love it!
Cindy (Country Victoria, Australia)
BE-U-TI-FUL!!!!!
I can only imagine what you will do to transform that place!
Congrats!
Wow – what a change! I understand the need to nest, and have dogs, but I think the city boy within in me is too scared! Good for you guys, and good luck. More than anything, I’m sure it will be a great project to sink your teeth into; but there will be highs and lows in that process too. Hope that spare bedroom doesn’t need too much usage, (for each other)!
Wow, let the fun begin! Love the sheep.
This is going to be such fun — watching you and Jaithan transform this marvelous old house into a home. Best to both of you!
Congratulations Eddie and Jaithan! It is beautiful – and it is going to be even more beautiful once you get at it. Thanks for taking us along on this great adventure. Looking forward to meeting you at your Rose Bowl event in March!
Congratulations, Eddie and Jaithan! What an exciting chapter you are about to embark on. I cannot wait to see what you do with your new house. I’m sure it will be fabulous once you’re done with it. How cute are the mini horses?! How far are you from the city?
As a scholar once said:
Land spreading out so far and wide!
Keep Manhattan, just give me the countryside.
Fabulous bones. It’s going to be so much fun and I’m looking forward to being taken along for the ride via this site. Love to you both
Adding my congratulations to both of you, Eddie and Jaithan! Such a warm and cozy feel to the home even before you’ve added your magical touch. I found your blog recently and have enjoyed it so much. I can only imagine what we have to look forward to with the new house!

How absolutely beautiful –congratulations to you both! You can now join the “old house owners club” wherein you complain about the drafts but will never, ever give the old pile up. Keep us posted and do you get to keep the animals?
P.S. The door on the beehive oven is very special – I’d use it as a mark or monogram for the house, i.e., stationery, match boxes, etc.
millerton is great…not the city of course but still very ny. i lived in putnam county for 4 years (pawling). loved it. classy country living at its best. i am 100% sure you will “own” it well.
i can see the country being the new city 🙂 everyone will be moving to the country soon.
seriously, what a great house…awesome. you really found a gem. once you put your name brand on it, it will be amazing. thanks for sharing.
Congratulations guys!! I’m so happy y’all found a place and it looks AMAZING. I can’t wait to see what you guys do when you move in. Woo!!
Eddie and Jaithan,
May you spend many happy hours dreaming, scheming, planning and painting your enchanting new home. Old homes tell a story and you will be writing a next chapter. Can’t wait to see the progress. Best to you both!

What an amazing spread. The floors are gorgeous, and the view out of the kitchen window is wonderful. I love the barn – and all the animals. I can’t wait to see what unfolds in the coming months! Congratulations on your new, beautiful place.

The SNOW!!! Look at the snow!!!! The temperature got to 44 degrees here yesterday (about 111 in your temp) so I could just run out and lie in the snow right now!!!!!!

Are those shetlands??? You guys are moving into my dream…
Congratulations! I cant wait to see the great things you will do with this place! So so jealous right now!
How beautiful! The floors are just stunning! And all those original features 🙂 Have you gone to heaven or what?? Am really excited to see what you make of it.
I’ve been following you for awhile now (and through you found more fabulous people out there in blogland) but now I have to jump in to add my congratulations.
“Beautiful bones” is right. And now you’ll have room for all of us to visit!
Congratulations I am so excited for you guys. I can not wait to see what you do to the place. Enjoy every moment.
Caroline
The oven door is beautiful. And those floors…….they are lovely.
Enjoy your new home.
Congratulations! Its charming!
What a find! I just know you will be so happy in Millerton. I grew up in Litchfield, CT and we would hop over to Millerton to buy beer on Sunday’s. Shssh, don’t tell anyone. Your home is charming and I know it will be come fabulous and chic. We are neighbors, almost, if you take the 30 minute drive! Congratulations Eddie and Jaithin, may your home always be filled with love and friends!
WOW!! How Exciting:) Congratulations to you and Jaithan. I am looking forward to seeing every decorating detail of your new home.
Oh wow – watching the transformation will be better than sitting with my favorite shelter magazine! Won’t this “project” make for good TV? Or at least a nice, lengthy magazine spread? Congrats and let the good times roll!
Congrats!!! You are going to love it!!!
It looks so peaceful!!! Good luck on you new home.
Congratulations its perfect!
Dear Eddie, I know there MUST be a flea market close by !!! I know you’ll start one if their isn’t !!!

I’m so jealous! Me and my husband would LOVE to find a house like that (and with a yard like that!)
I am excited to see how you transform it from a beautiful house to a beautiful home!
Congrats!!
Congratulations! This place is so charming! I can’t wait to see what you do there!! Definitely keep us posted.
Congratulations to you both. What a wonderful bit of news to start my day!
Hi Eddie –
Lovely place! I’m so jealous! My husband’s family runs a dairy farm in the next town up Rt 22 – (Copake) called Walt’s Dairy. You will love Millerton. Great Antiques Center and one of my favorite bookstores in the world is in Millerton (Oblong Books). I lived in Copake for a little more than two years after getting married. My husband is the farm boy and I grew up in NYC! So I can relate to both sides of your life. Well, enough of me babbling – Enjoy your wonderful place and post pic after pic.
– Lynda
Eddie & Jaithan-congrats to both of you! I am so happy for you & can’t wait to see your dreams unfold. Your new place has been waiting for you. Enjoy every minute of making it your own and thanks for sharing with all that love you.
Congratulations!
I can’t wait to see the transformation. I think this house breathed a sigh of relief, excitement and happiness when you two became the owners; it’ll be so well taken care of. What more could a house want?! 🙂
Oh, EDDIE! Llamas and sheep and a butler’s pantry, oh my! It looks heavenly; I adore all the wonderful details (and I cannot believe that no one muddled them in the 60s–the cauldron and bread oven!!) and I can’t wait to see what you do with it. I am constantly torn between wanting to be back in New York and wanting to move out of Cambridge up to the North Shore, near the ocean. Congrats!
I couldn’t be more thrilled for you! I have butterflies in my stomach even. I love old homes. My husband and I have a little old Victorian house that is over 100 years old. Our whole neighborhood is “historic”. There is just something about old homes. Even with its many flaws I wouldn’t trade mine for the world. I CANT wait to see what you do with your new home. It is going to be AMAZING! The surroundings look alot like New Zealand where my mother is from and where I have lived. Gorgeous!
Eddie,
I’m so excited for the both of you – what a great journey, and now a piece of the pie (and a large piece at that) that you can own! I spend a lot of time in NYC, having uncles who live in Chelsea – but I prefer the landscape pictured in Millerton. I can’t wait to read the many blogs of transformations I know you’ll have for us! Best of luck to you and Jaithan in this extremely exciting adventure! Let me know when you have a barn-party for us NY fans! 🙂
Congratulations to you and Jaithan! I’m so looking forward to seeing how you transform your new/old abode. Wishing you many years of bliss in your new home.
Cheers,
Inspired Living
Eddie and Jaithan, I am so happy for you both. It is a dream come true, I’m sure! It will be exciting to see all that you will do , however even as it is it is a wonder, and when you make it your own it will be heavenly!
please read this in a NEW YORK accent —
Dahling, OMG, You’re a home-owna-now!
I love it!

Congrats to you both! I can’t wait to see what you do with the place.
Congratulations!! I am very happy and excited for you and Jaithan – but perhaps even more excited for myself and the rest of your blog fans!! What fun we will all have!!! Loved all the pictures you posted – I just want to see every detail!!
Beautiful house with so much potential! Specially I LOVE the floor. I can’t wait to see this house being Eddielized.
I am beyond excited for you and Jaithan. I want to be your neighbor!
Yay yay yay!! Felicidades! Your description of all the nooks and crannies of your new home exude joy and excitement. Enjoy every moment of the move and building your new home together. (did you pay people to put those mini horses out to pasture, c’mon, it’s too fabulous!)
Saludos cordiales!
WOW. That is so exciting! I am very happy for you both. I cannot wait to read about your adventures in redecorating, cooking, and entertaining. You are such an inspiration!
In fact, I have a few of your flower arrangements and your beauiful vergetable dip presentation printed out for my engagement brunch party my fiance and I are throwing this weekend. They won’t look as professional as yours, but I am so happy to have your goregous projects as inspiration.
I am so excited that you would think it was my house!! I may never sleep again for fear that I might miss an update.
I wish you both ALL the BEST that life has to offer….

Cannot wait to see the process and progress!
Many many brightest blessings to both of you on your new home and hearth! The transformation of home and garden MUST be carefully documented — for your future decor book (which I will be pre-buying at amazon.com!) Of course — your dear house MUST have a name! Hmmmmmm …. perhaps you both could think of some names … and you could have a contest to name your new home? JUST a thought! Can’t wait to see the first party photos (on moving day! LOL!)!!
Jan at Rosemary Cottage (when we saw this very ordinary suburban house and garden — the only living thing was a huge bush of rosemary! LOL!)
Eddie and Jaithan,This is beyond just good news this is life changing news.I am grinning from ear to ear.You have so much to look forward too.The love and care you will give this home is going to make it an absolute jewel.I was in awe of the patina of all the wood floors and I noticed on the very bottom of the stairs the first piece of wood was all rough from wear.I love the oven and the old brick on the fireplace and the beams in the living room and…..it is just wonderful. We all will be benefitting from your hard work and imagination. This is going to be a fun new journey and adventure in your lives together.Big Hugs and Congrats to Both of you,Kathysue
It’s fun to hear about your excitement over your new home and lifestyle. It will be quite a change of pace for you guys! But it sounds like you are ready. I’m looking forward to seeing how you will transform the space to your own and hoping your energy energizes me as well! Enjoy your new home!
Congratulations Eddie and Jaithan on your new home! I cannot wait to see the projects you have in store. Best of luck on this amazing journey.
xoxo,
Brit
I want to know if there are any ghosts! Looks like a lot of history under that roof and in those floors. Yowza.
pve
I can see by the response, 190 at this point, that you have made an impact on all of us.
To me it looks like Utopia!!! Enjoy all the fun in turning such a treasure into “your treasure”. Can’t wait to follow along. You East Coast folks have such great stock of historical homes with such character…the midwest we are not as lucky.
I think your star is definately on the rise as you make your EVOLUTION 🙂
Janet
Eddie,
Congratulations to you and Jaithan, its beauty is astounding! I can only imagine your excitment and the emotions you experienced as you signed the closing documents and traveled to Millerton knowing the very next time you set foot into the home it would be yours.
I commend you and Jaithan for your passion, patience, perseverance, and ingenuity, and I look forward of all the exciting stories to come as you make it your own. Thank you for sharing your experience with us. Vanessa
Wow! What a lovely place! I can’t wait to see what you do with the place.
Eddie and Jaithan be sure to check my nomination for this contest..you!

Congratulations to you both! I’m so excited for you! I didn’t know homes that authentic on the inside still existed, that they haven’t all been renovated by now. I can’t wait to see what you do to the house – I know it’ll be Fabulous! 🙂
Best!
Diana
SO EXCITED for you! Can’t wait to see it all Eddie’d up! It will be your own slice of Fabulous!
Congrats! My husband and I made the jump to the country from the city 10 years ago. Our 200 year old home is the original home to a 150 acre apple farm in upstate New York. I will never get tired of the view out of our kitchen window…there is nothing like it. To watch the fields turn the colors of the seasons is the best! We now have a mini horse, four goats, 12 hens and a rooster! Farm fresh eggs…yum! All the best!
WOW!!!!
I AM SOOOOOOOO JEALOUS!!!
CONGRATULATIONS TO BOTH OF YOU – I CAN’T WAIT TO WHITNESS THE TRANSFORMATION!
YOU BETTER HAVE ME UP FOR A SPRING GARDEN PARTY – I’LL HELP CUT,CLEAN,TRIM,SPRUCE,SPLICE,DIG,EDGE,

CONGRATULATIONS! The sheep are beautiful and oh my god those floorboards….
I’m so happy for you and Jaithan! That’s one of my dreams is to own a farm out here in the Hill Country of Texas, outside of Austin. Can’t wait to see what you do with it. Please keep us posted Eddie!
Oh my gosh! I had tears in my eyes when I looked at the photos of your new home! It is my DREAM home! Alas, I am stuck in my rental here in Nebraska! I can’t wait to see what you do with it — I shall live vicariously through you! Congratulations!!
Eddie, Since I saw you on Oprah before Christmas, I have waited for every E-Mail and loved each new story. I am excited for you and Jaithin on your new adventure. Can’t wait to see the ideas that you have in mind and will implement. It looks as if the winters are fabulous there, I’m very envious. Waiting on additional E-Mails with your remodeling and decorating ideas for your new home.
Congratulations,
Rebecca – North Carolina
Oh-eM-Gee! I cannot wait to see what you do with your new place. I am actually giddy with anticipation. You should write a book! CONGRATULATIONS!!
So THAT is what you’ve been hinting at! What an amazing house! Congrats on the purchase and can’t wait to see it come to life. I’m sure it will be amazing!
I want the sheep…no seriously…can you ship them to me?
Well, we will be neighbors-sort of-I’m just over the line in CT.
If you need any sewing done please call!
Kristen
So happy for you! My hubby and I are in the process of buying a new home, across the street from a horse stable, that we will be doing some renovating with. It will be great to get some ideas from your home! Good luck and congratulations on your new adventure!
Can’t wait to see what you do with the place. I think you should make a reality show out of it. LOL
oh my. this place is stunning! well, will be. congratulations!
are you serious??!! this is really y’alls house? i am in love!!!! i can’t wait to see what you do w/ it…the floors are amazing. so all of those animals are yours??!
Eddie,
Good for you…and good for everybody else…in these times, there is so much gloom, it is wonderful to see people going at this with such joy. Little did you know that your special interest…fleas, repurposing…would be so right for our times. I’d like you to do a post on converting a guest room to a sick room, a place someone can be cared for at home. That is a real part of a home. People don’t know how to do that much anymore. Great find on your house.
C
what an amazing old house!!! how lucky are you to have that for a clean slate? i mean..the possiblities!!! GREAT. i got my real estate license a few years ago and worked w/my grandparents (they’re brokers) in a small town JUST so i’d get to peek inside all those neat old houses. my husband and i could never find the perfect old house like that, so we ended up building a new house to look old. the greatest compliment is when people ask us how old the house is..so anyway, i can’t wait to see what y’all do with it!
Congratulations! That house is so beautiful. I can’t wait to see what all you do with it.
Congratulations – I am so excited to see how you transform the lovely farmhouse into your “own” place. It should be a great adventure!
Congratulations on your new home! I am excited to see what you do with it. Congrats!!
I can’t believe you’re leaving the city! I’m in Pearl River, about a 35 minute ride over the GW Bridge and down the West Side Highway. Don’t know if I could ever make that big of a move as the two of you. I still need my city fix! I love the flower arrangement you made for the Gift Show. Wish I had known about it before I was there on Monday; I would have stopped by to get a close-up look. Lots of luck to the two of you and I can’t wait to see the before and after pics of everything. Joanne ~~ glamourgirljoanne@yahoo.com
Congrats, we just purchased our first home last year, it is very rewarding but lots of work. Take it in stride and have fun! It is very charming and I am sure you are going to make it beautiful! You should do a T.V. show on the renovation.
Congratulations guys – from Toronto Canada!!
I am looking forward to many more ideas!
In a world that is obsessed with multi tasking – talking on cell phones, Starbucks and driving a car (all at once), it’s nice and refreshing to see two young guys who are willing to make the move in the opposite direction and trade for comfort and a FABULOUS VIEW!!
I am JEALOUS!!
that is so very exciting! the house is so beautiful and the farm animals, you are living my dream. best of luck!
Congratulations!!! I literally got tears in my eyes reading your descriptions and seeing the photos… you have purchased “Peace” if that is possible. I am so happy for you and Jaithan, to be trading UP, UP, UP to this bucolic heaven. The home you will make of this place will be no less than amazing, but the LIFE you will enjoy here will surpass your wildest dreams~~
Great good fortune to you and Jaithan in your new/old abode!
xoxo
Karen Otto
Let me add my congratulations! I’m sure you’ll make it very lovely 🙂
Wow this is sweet! I guess you won’t be looking at Newburgh for a while! You have your hands full!
Eddie–What a fabulous house! What fun you two are going to have–and lots of old house aggravation. I want to point out two writers to you, both very dated, but you will still find them interesting because both made a good bit on money writing about living in their houses in the country a couple of generations ago. IE, they did what you are doing. One is Gladys Taber who lived in an 18th c house in CT. See if you can find “The Best of Stillmeadow.” The other was an Englishman, Beverley Nichols. See “Down the Garden Path” and “A Thatched Roof.” I am currently reading a biography of him. He happens to have been gay but that is neither here nor there. Both Nichols and Taber wrote about daily life, old houses, gardens, animals, antiques, flowers, food, friends, etc.–the things that you and I like. You probably already know them, but if not, you might want to meet them.
Hello Eddie
Welcome to the country! I moved to my little farmhouse after 28yrs in the city and i am loving my life. We are on our last room of renovating which is our kitchen so i am hoping you will give me some idea’s and inspiration. check out my last post on my blog to give you some inspiration of how we love living the Country Way!
regards,
debbie
*F-a-b-u-l-o-u-s*….I am totally jealous!! Pure heaven on earth, what a ‘classic’…and oh my gosh…ponies as neighbors!! Congrats….I am absolutely *thrilled* for you both!! Can’t wait to see how you will make it your own!! Hugs…Valerie up in Manitoba xo
I can NOT wait to see the finished product! Two things that excitment the most: Obo the Llama (because they are my fav) and Dash & Albert. I just got one of their cottom hooked rugs as a runner and it is AMAZING! Congrats!
Congratulations….
I am thinking “a book” on the renovation.
Martha did it and you have the gift….
can’t wait to see your special touch on this beautiful property. Thanks for sharing.
So fitting! I am very excited for the two of you! I hope that all your dreams and desires are met and made in your new home!
Best,
Margaret
Hi Eddie,
Imagine leaving NYC! Actually I can, being a “country boy” myself. The country with its wide open spaces, peaceful quiet, and natural beauty, can’t be beat – Congrats! I love your house – wood shingles or so great. The wide plank floors are beautiful! I hope we get to see you put your magic touch and see this old house become this “new” old house! ?
I am enamored of the Dash and Albert rug collection, one of the striped ones would look awesome in my foyer!
Thanks Eddie.
Ciao!
Awww, Eddie & Jaithan, what an absolute jewel of a house, so old and vintage with so much charm. I cannot WAIT to see you put your very magical touch on this place. What an idyllic setting too. You spilled the beans about the new place at our Atlanta shopping trip, so I’ve been waiting to see the place & it doesn’t disappoint. xoxo from me!
I can’t wait what you two do with the inside! It is going to be amazing.
Wow! What a giant leap. I can’t wait to see what you’re going to do with this beauty…love the tub and the wide plank floors.
Congratulations Eddie & Jaithan for finding that jewel of a home! It’s precious! And you have furry friends!I’m so excited to see how you’ll make it even more fabulous!
Congrats! Millerton is such a cute town. First order of business – you MUST go to the Harney & Sons Tea shop on Main St. Their tasting room is to die for!
I am a country girl and I can tell you, for a fact, you will absolutely love living in the country. Your new home is amazing! Oh my, those beautiful floors!! I’m looking forward to seeing you work your magic!
All the best!
Congratulations to you both! Your new home is beautiful and I cannot wait to see what you and Jaithan do to it to make it all your own.
WOW! A beautiful place to live. I love the wide plank flooring. And Luna and Hal are precious. I love miniature horses! When I live in Montana, I used to groom miniature horses for a friend — it’s such a great calming experience!
That is quite the leap with a perfect landing. I grew up in a house in Massachusetts that was built in 1668. Looking through your photos made me very homesick!
I am looking forward to seeing the evolution of your new abode. Congratulations!
Eddie, didn’t know you were on Oprah!? Can you put a link to that footage on your blog? and like everyone else said, congrats on the house, can’t wait to see your renovating ideas. We’re also awaiting the next big announcement – Butlers Pantry!
Congratulations Eddie and Jaithan!
Oh my GOSH….I’m SOOOO happy for you guys!!! I discovered your blog just before Christmas and I’ve been secretly checking in ever since! I really appreciate all of the inspiration you so generously share and I just LOVE your style, Eddie.
You wouldn’t believe the huge smile on my face when I read this post. Again…I’m SO happy for both of you…yay!!!!!!!!!!!!! Woohoo…sorry for all the exclaimation marks…it’s just…wow…yay!
Can’t wait to see what you do with your wonderful new place!
Now…keep your fingers crossed for me as well, o.k? We are hoping to sell our 1919 home in town soon and move to some land as well to a 1916 home. Now we won’t have as much space int he house itself as we have now…but having land will be wonderful. I can’t wait to get to work on our new house…right now it feels like I’m living in Limbo and I don’t want to renovate this house anymore as we will be moving.
O.k…so coming out of lurkdom and I can’t stop typing…oops.
Congratulations :o)
Marianne
Oh my! I’ve been reading your blog as a creepy lurker for a while but I just had to comment when I read this and saw the pictures! I am going through something kind of similar right now, being a city girl heading towards something simpler and trying to be much more self sufficient. From seeing how beautiful that house already is, I can’t even wrap my brain around how amazing it’s going to be once you start making it your own. I can’t wait!
WOW! This looks like a dream come true. Can’t wait to watch the progress once you get started. With sheep and Lamas will there be spinning and weaving? Congratulations to you both.
So very, very pleased and excited for the both of You. A wonderful new adventure to be sure. CONGRATULATIONS!
CONGRATULATIONS ON THE NEW HOME!!!!
I AM DELIGHTED THAT YOU’VE INVITED US TO JOIN YOU IN THIS VERY EXCITING JOURNEY.
CAN’T WAIT!!!
I am so excited for you!! It will be beautiful. I can remember when I first ventured into my 1875 log home that was once a “Holding Place” for traders here on Old Stage Road. A dream come true. I was thankful to have connections with a plumber and electrician…so much had to be reworked. The home now has a very large stone addition. You will love what country life will bring your way..the fields with flowers, the chance to have a garden….ohhh…you will have a ball! Congrats!!
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! I’m so excited for you both! This is wonderful, truly. I can’t WAIT to see the amazing things you come up with, using your new home as inspiration.
This is really wonderful. You’re living the dream!
Oh I am so jealous! I have wanted to live on a piece of land with small ponies and rooooom forever!
I can’t wait to see what you do with your beautiful home.
It has such wonderful potential. How exciting!

Wow – so excited for you and of course, a little bit jealous. Look at all that SPACE!! (living outside of DC, I know what you mean about wanting space.) I can’t wait to see what you do with the place!! Good luck moving…
Eddie, I am so proud of you! God bless you, your home and your new life!
That place is soooooooo beautiful!!! – you are so incredibly lucky – are you keeping he manhattan apartment as well or going all the way and moving out herre full time? – you are going to have so much fun decorating – I am so jealous!!!
It’s nirvana! The little ponies are worth it as neighbors 🙂 That odd window in the guest room is a trip! But “Oh my gosh!” The floors Eddie…the floors! The wood work in the home alone is just something you can’t buy, it has to be original. You are going to tweek this home into a show place, I know it! I may have to send you a lovely Nantucket Basket to sit by the hearth…I love your new place! You two will love the feeling of really being home 🙂
Christie
ACK
your new home is so wonderful … but the best is yet to come. You will fall in love all over again when the snow goes and the landscape wakes up and turns green. We live in the country and summer is my favorite season by far. Your place will be breathtaking with all of those wonderful trees.
Enjoy every moment making this house your home!
Congratulations and best wishes I hope the home is everything you ever dreamed a home could be
Alex
Congrats to you and Jaithan! I can’t wait to see you put your spin on your lovely new home.

Wow! By the looks of things, you’d think you were moving to Arkansas!:-)What a HUGE change for you both! Best of luck and I look forward to seeing you turn this quaint house into a home!
Mazel Tov! Those views! Those hardwood floors! I can’t wait for you two to be settled and happy there. You can breathe!!!! So happy for you two, it looks like paradise, wonder how beautiful it will be in the summer? 🙂
congratulations on the move–the whole place is amazing–and I’m very excited to be able to watch as you turn it into your dream home!
My very best wishes for good health and much happiness in your new digs. I can hardly wait to see what changes you make to this charming house.
Much love to both of you, Mrs. Kenney
(Maryann)
Congratulations to you — Please, oh please, keep us posted with lots of pictures from your move, and whatever wonderful things you do to this house. Have truly enjoyed your blog and wish you many years of happiness (and serenity!) in you new home. Perhaps you will be inspired to travel down to our Virginia horse country someday — (?)…
I am so jealous! Your home is gorgeous. I can’t wait to see what you do with it. I am sure it will look amazing! Good luck with your move.
Congratulations! I pictured it covered in hanging garlands and wreaths at Christmas!
Way to go!
Eddie —
Tell me you will be coming back to NYC for your “flea market” trips?
No matter, congratulations on your new home! Middleton’s fabulous quotient just went up like 1,000%!
Welcome to the neighborhood!
Let me know if you ever come to Hudson for a shopping trip.
Those miniature ponies are too much!
Congratulations to you both! But I confess I am thrilled about your new home for a slightly more selfish reason – we moved into a home built in 1770 and added on to in 1800 in an historic district in RI and I CANNOT WAIT to see what you do to your place, as many features are similar. I am so pleased that you plan on keeping us posted. Thank you!
Looks incredible! I can’t wait for future posts with lots of photos of your new home. Congratulations!
WOW AND CONGRATULATIONS! What an amazing home! I cannot wait to see how you make the aesthetic your own and hear about the life you build inside its walls!
Congratulations! How exciting for you both. As a compact city-dweller I know exactly what you are talking about….
Can’t wait to see what you do with it!
Dear Eddie and Jaithan,
I wish you the very, very, very best times ever in your fabulous country farmhouse. I can’t wait to see the magic you bring to this charmer.

AMAZING house– I would move out of the city in a heartbeat for your new digs. Oh the fun projects you’ll get to do in this place.!
I can’t wait to see what you do to this home. I love the look and feel of it from the pictures. You’ll feel so content and at home when you get your personal belongings in it and decorate. Can’t wait!
oh how exciting! I can’t wait to see you both do with this great space!!
Congrats! So much potential. And I do love the shot of the doorknob. Somehow, I am compelled to post pics of mine as well… I guess because I feel so lucky to have a knobs that somehow survived being melted down in WWII… I am a historic preservationist and am amused by the small things.
I always hope to get to consult on a proect like this now, but with the economy, people are just not looking to restore/renovate.
Fantastic, guys! The house is so beautiful. I love the guest room and those stairs! Congratulations! I hope the house is filled with dreams come true.
All the best!
I have one word for you —- Adventure!

Hi Eddie & Jaithan,
I’ve read every word of your blog. Can’t wait to see how you bring a little new world to your lovely old farmhouse. Please, please show how closets and storage areas have been added to the house over the years. Closets as we know them today are more a 20th century invention. I live in a 100+ year old farmhouse with practically no closets!!
Love, love, love the wide plank floors. We have them, also.
what a perfectly lovely and charming place to call home.
can’t wait to see what you do to “make it yours”
get jordan to tell you, I can help with the dogs. lots of dogs.
Hello Eddie,
It was so great to talk with you tonight on Olivia’a Blog Talk Radio. Loved the show. Speaking of Mommy Dearest – it was perfect when you put Joan Crawford’s picture on your “Christmas ornaments on a wire hanger” wreath post.
You and Jaithan must be very elated to be in your new home and probably a little stressed at the same time. I hope you will share how it’s all coming together from the floors up. Just curious, were you able to move right in without having to do anything major to the bathrooms or the kitchen? Thank you again for inspiring the rest of us!
Love your new house!!!! Stunning! And the floors are just amazing:-) Looking forward to follow the rest of your journey…
Oh My Word yall!! I SO am dying from EVERYTHING with that house!! It is GORGEOUS!! The detail, the old hardware…EVERYTHING!!! Congrats!!
Congratulations on your new old home! People kept telling me to come take a look and I finally found the time to after digging out from my own moving boxes. The house is absolutely perfect! I’ll be back to see what you do with it 🙂

I am so inspired by your new home. Love what you are doing with it….I am so kicking myself now for donating all my “milk glass” after reading your postings and viewing the pictures. I have a few pieces left and will be hanging onto them.
Wonderful house Eddie–sure it will be a dream when your done. It and the setting remind me of one of my favorite movies from the ’80s ‘Baby Boom’! If you haven’t, you must see it. Must tell you–you have inspired me to become a new convert to thrift store shopping. I have found some FABULOUS things for next to nothing, but the thrill of the chase is the best part. As a friend says, I’ve become a ‘thrift whore’!! Anyway, happy renovating and decorating–can’t wait to see more pictures as you make it yours. Cheers to you both! 🙂 Scott
